Targeting the Narendra Modi government the president of the ex-servicemen cell of the All India Congress Committee, colonel (retd) Rohit Chaudhary has alleged that it has conducted a surgical strike on the Indian Army by removing the disability element in the disability pension given to the armed forces personnel who get disabled in the line of duty.

Interacting with the media persons at the Congress Bhawan here on Saturday, Chaudhary said that the Modi government has notified the entitlement rules for casualty pension and disability compensation awards to the armed forces personnel 2023 policy. Terming the policy as detrimental to the security set up and one which hurts the prestige of the armed forces, the Congress leader said that the disability element in the disability pension has been replaced with impairment relief. Elaborating further Chaudhary said that disability pension is an ex-gratia relief for the armed forces personnel getting disabled while serving the nation. He said the disability pension has two components, one service pension and the other disability pension. With the new policy the government has replaced the disability pension with the impairment relief which is an ex-gratia amount given monthly and is not a pension.

Speaking on the occasion the president of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Karan Mahara said that recently the Modi government has issued an order according to which an army personnel who has taken a leave of more than 14 days will engage in social activity in his local area and submit a detailed report to his unit on his return. Mahara also attacked the BJP government for showing disrespect to late lieutenant general Hanut Singh and Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali.

The state president of the ex-servicemen cell, captain (retd) BS Rawat, colonel (retd) Mohan Singh Rawat, vice president of Uttarakhand Congress Mathura Dutt Joshi, spokesperson Sheespal Singh Bisht and others were present on the occasion.
