The first fortnight of the Char Dham Yatra has seen all past records being broken with more people visiting some of the Char Dham temples in a single day than ever before. The total number of pilgrims visiting these shrines so far has also crossed the number of pilgrims during the corresponding period in past years. The unprecedented crowds of pilgrims in the initial days resulted in major traffic jams and other issues. The State government has since made registration of pilgrims mandatory. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has also directed officials to ascertain the carrying capacity of the Char Dham and the routes leading to these temples.
