Char Dham Yatra begins with reopening of Gangotri & Yamunotri

The Char Dham Yatra began on Saturday with the ritual reopening of Gangotri and Yamunotri temples to the public on the occasion of Akshay Tritiya. As per the schedule, the portals of Gangotri temple were opened at 12.35 PM while the portals of Yamunotri temple were opened at 12.41 PM.
The portals of Kedarnath are slated to be opened on April 25 while Badrinath will be opened on April 27.
Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami offered prayers at Kharshali, Yamunotri and sent off the procession of goddess Yamuna from Kharshali to Yamunotri. The CM also offered prayers to goddess Ganga at Gangotri on the occasion. Dhami said that the Char Dham Yatra will be held with enthusiasm, adding that flowers had been showered from a helicopter on people arriving for the pilgrimage. He said that all the devotees arriving from across India and abroad will be able to pay obeisance at the Char Dham shrines. He stressed that all necessary arrangements have been made for the Char Dham Yatra, adding that the State government is committed to ensuring a safe and convenient pilgrimage.
Stating that all possible facilities will be provided to the pilgrims, the CM said that all the arrangements made for the Yatra are being monitored regularly. MLA Suresh Chauhan, Uttarkashi district magistrate Abhishek Ruhela and others along with a large number of devotees were also present on the occasion.
