Char Dham Yatra : Transport dept gears up to prevent overcharging

Thursday, 02 March 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The transport department will deploy enforcement teams at various places on Rishikesh, Haridwar and other routes during the Char Dham Yatra to take action against the transport operators who overcharge pilgrims. The department will seize permits of the guilty besides imposing a penalty and taking action as per the law. The regional transport officer (enforcement) of Dehradun division Shailesh Tiwari said on Wednesday that the department often receives complaints that vehicles like taxis and cabs charge more fare from pilgrims than the rate fixed by the State Transport Authority (STA).  He said that the passengers must book their cabs or taxis through authentic travel agencies or travel agents which are registered as per the norms. He said that the department has made it mandatory to put up a list displaying fare for various routes in the public transport vehicle and the passenger should check the list first before booking the vehicle. He said that passengers have the right to demand the list of fare from vehicle operators even if it is not put up in the vehicle. He appealed to the citizens to avoid travelling in private vehicles to avoid discrepancies in fare during Char Dham Yatra. He also appealed to the people to complain against such operators who overcharge pilgrims and ensured that the department will take strict action against them.
