The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal visited the Akshaya Patra Kitchen in Sudhowala on Sunday to inspect its operations and ensure the quality of meals supplied to approximately 350 government schools in the area.

During his visit, the DM emphasised that children are the foundation of society and providing them with nutritious food is their fundamental right. DM Bansal tasted the meals being prepared in the kitchen to address complaints received from parents and teachers regarding the food being too spicy for children. He directed the management to make the meals more child-friendly so that students can eat comfortably and enjoy their food.

The DM issued clear instructions to replace all plastic containers with stainless steel ones to ensure better hygiene and sustainability. He stressed the importance of maintaining clean and hygienic utensils for transporting food to schools. Bansal also directed the Akshaya Patra Kitchen management to obtain ratings for their meals from parents and teachers during parent-teacher meetings before processing their next payment. He highlighted that feedback and suggestions from children and their parents should be a priority for the organisation. He also instructed the Vikasnagar sub divisional magistrate to ensure regular sampling of the food prepared by the kitchen. During the inspection, food sampling was conducted in the DM’s presence to verify its quality.

Acknowledging Akshaya Patra’s reputation as a leading organisation, he urged the team to uphold its high standards and deliver top-quality services to the students. He also directed them to ensure that the children receive meals that are not only nutritious but also tailored to their tastes and preferences.
