Traffic rule awareness will be spread among children
In latest Uttarakhand news, the work of opening children’s traffic park to raise awareness among the children about the traffic rules has gained intensity with the State transport department having already identified lands for these parks in Dehradun and Haridwar. The State transport department officers said that efforts are on to identify lands for such parks in other districts of the State.
With the steady spike in road accidents across the State, it is being increasingly felt that a mass awareness campaign should be launched to spread awareness among the common people about the imperative of conforming to the traffic rules to avert accidents. The State transport department officers say that the accidents principally happen due to the scant importance given by the people to the road safety rules.
At a recent meeting presided over by the State chief secretary S S Sandhu, it was decided that programmes would be launched in the schools to make the students aware of the importance of observing the road safety rules. It was also stressed at the meeting that workshops would be organised from time to time in the schools.
It is in this context that the idea of opening children’s traffic parks in every district of the State was mooted. The objective behind this move is to spread traffic rule awareness among the students playfully. Direction was given to the district transport officers to earmark lands for the park project in their respective districts. Now the work of preparing DPRs for construction of these parks would be started. Notably, lands have been identified for such parks near Sahastradhara helipad in Dehradun and near RTO office in Haridwar.
