In latest news from Uttarakhand, to enhance the infrastructural facilities for the Indian Army and the villagers, the Government of India has started laying a network of roads along the India-China border in strategically important Pithoragarh district. After the construction of 65 km stretch of road from Munsiyari via Dhapa Band to Milam, preparations have started to build a 19 km- long road from Milam to the last post of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) located at Dung along the border. ITBP and Border Road Organisation (BRO) have completed the survey for this proposed road. In view of the region’s importance from strategic and tourism point of view, the road project received prompt approval from the Centre.
Notably, the Government of India has completed the road construction work from Tawaghat to Lipulekh and from Dhapa Band of Munsiyari to Milam in the last four years. Vehicles will hopefully start moving on these two roads soon.
After the construction of the 12,000 feet road up to Milam is completed, the Government of India has embarked on a more ambitious road project from Milam to Dung at the height of 14,000 feet.
Mention worthy, BRO has been designated as the executing agency for this road construction and the work is expected to start soon.
