Following the order of the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the State government has presented Rs five lakh as Samman Nidhi to the son of Chipko movement leader Gaura Devi. It will be recalled that Gaura Devi was posthumously chosen for the Uttarakhand Ratna Award by the State government in 2016. Her family members were presented with a citation but the Samman Nidhi was not presented to them with it.
Later after an inquiry into the matter, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had ordered that the amount be presented to her family. On Wednesday, sub divisional magistrate Kumkum Joshi called Gaura Devi’s son Chandra Singh to her office to honour him with a shawl and present a cheque for Rs five lakh. Singh thanked the chief minister after receiving the amount. He said that all works get done if the public representatives are aware.
