City markets abuzz with last-minute shoppers for Janmashtami

Dehradun city’s markets, including Paltan Bazaar, Jhanda Bazaar and Dhamawala witnessed heavy footfall on Saturday ahead of Janmashtami, which is to be celebrated on August 26. Shoppers in the market were seen buying decorative items, clothes, Jhula and Puja items to celebrate Janmashtami with enthusiasm at their homes. Regarding this, Janmashtami items sellers added that the trend of celebrating Janmashtami at home instead of in temples has increased among the people.

A Janmashtmi items seller at the market Jagmohan Singh noted the increasing crowd of shoppers with only a couple of days left for Janmashtmi. This year, people are particularly interested in brass Jhula for Laddu Gopal and complete sets of accessories to decorate their Lord Krishna idols for Janmashtami. He added that earlier only temple owners were seen shopping for Janmashtami items, but now people have started celebrating Janmashtami at home with religious fervour.

A shopper, Sudesh Bindra said that she has bought different types of clothes, Jhula, bed for Lord Krishna’s idol at home. Apart from this, she has also bought dry fruits and other materials to prepare Prasad for offering to Lord Krishna during Janmashtami, she said.  

Another shopper, Simran Nath stated that she bought silk dresses and a new Laddu Gopal made of brass to celebrate Janmashtami at home. She expressed her excitement over celebrating Janmashtami with zeal this year.

Additionally, many city temples have also been decorated with lights and other items to celebrate Janmashtami with fervour this year.
