Civil Aviation secretary to present stand in HC

Expressing dissatisfaction at the Ministry of Civil Aviation not presenting its stand for about right months in the Public Interest Litigation filed against proposed construction of a greenfield airport on land of the Pantnagar university, the Uttarakhand high court has directed the ministry’s secretary to appear in person on September 15 and submit the response. The direction was issued by the bench of chief justice RS Chauhan and justice Alok Kumar Verma.
In the PIL filed by Pantnagar resident KK Pasi, it is stated that the said airport is proposed to be built in the middle of the university. It is contended that this will not only threaten the existence of the university but also make it inconvenient for people to access the airport. The petitioner has sought that the proposed airport be constructed on vacant barren land either in Nainital or Udham Singh Nagar district instead.
