The volunteers of the Social Development for Communities (SDC) foundation organised a clean-up drive at the Maldevta picnic spot on Saturday. Large number of youngsters took part in the drive in which about 40 kg of plastic and other waste was collected. After the drive the volunteers segregated the waste into multilayered plastic, PET bottles and glass.
The Founder of SDC foundation, Anoop Nautiyal said that it is heartening to note that more and more youngsters are getting associated with the foundation to take part in such drives.
Pyare Lal of SDC foundation said that they organise such drives in different places in and around the city to give the message of cleanliness and health hazards of the plastic waste. He said that the waste collected is segregated and a portion of the plastic waste is sent to the Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP) where it is converted into diesel while some is used in making bricks and the PET bottles are recycled.
Ananya Rawat, a student of class X who participated in the drive said that it is really shocking to know that the people who carry edibles and other things in plastic packs and wrappers leave them behind to pollute the environment. She said that everyone should carry a bag along with them when they visit such places and take back all the plastic and other waste along with them.
Praveen Uperti, Abhishek Bhatt, Sujata Devradi, Arun, Vicky Rana, Jagriti Arora, Pranjal, Arunima Rawat, Aditya Vardhan, Harshita Negi and others took part in the drive in which The Pioneer among others was also involved.
