Climate-Friendly Rainfed Agriculture Project Workshop inaugurated

PNS | DEHRADUN

Addressing ‘Uttarakhand Climate-Friendly Rainfed Agriculture Project Workshop’ organised by the Water Resources Department in FRI Campus on Tuesday, the State Water Resources minister Satpal Maharaj said that Uttarakhand is being affected gravely by global climate change. Climate change has led to an increase in natural disasters, rise in temperature and decrease in water availability in the rain-fed hilly areas due to which the productivity of most crops is being affected, he added.

Thanking the Central Government and the World Bank for choosing Uttarakhand for this work, he said that a powerful production system is being developed in selected micro-watershed areas of Uttarakhand to make hill agriculture profitable and capable of greenhouse gas reduction. He further said that the State water resource department has started implementing the World Bank-funded Uttarakhand Climate Resilient Rainfed Agriculture Project from Tuesday itself.
