CM apologises, Bhagat expresses regret

Following the comment made by the Bharatiya Janata Party state president Banshidhar Bhagat regarding the leader of opposition Indira Hridayesh, chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat apologised to her while Bhagat himself expressed regret and withdrew his statement.

The chief minister tweeted at 12:38 AM on Wednesday addressing Hridayesh stating that he was very sad. “A woman is very respectable and venerable to us. I personally seek an apology from you and everyone who is sad like I am,” said Rawat in the tweet.

Later during the day, the BJP state president said that he had come to know that the statement he had made at a party workers’ meet in Bhimtal had displeased the leader of opposition. He said, “I had used a word which I have come to know has hurt the leader of opposition. I would like to make it clear that she is our senior and respecting women is my and my party’s priority. I had said it in a general way but if my statement hurt her, I deeply regret it and withdraw my statement.”
