CM approves funds to monitor Gangotri glacier, enhance disaster management in 6 districts
Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has approved allocation of budget to Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology to monitor the Gangotri glacier at Gaumukh in view of the probability of glacial disasters in the state. The State government had requested the institute director to send a team to inspect any possible landslide or creation of artificial lake in Gangotri glacier area during the winter.
The institute had sought Rs 12 lakh from the state government for this purpose and had pointed out that considering the recent directions of the Uttarakhand high court, inspecting the said area was important during the winters. Considering this, the CM has granted immediate approval for Rs 12 lakh.
In addition to this, Rawat also approved allocation of budget for disaster management authority and district emergency operation centre in Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Champawat, Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Dehradun. For this, Rs 7.83 lakh will be issued under disaster management authority remuneration head and Rs 11 lakh for the emergency operation centre.
