Two Agniveers scheduled to retire in November 2026 from the armed forces of the country will be appointed in the 40th battalion of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) of Uttarakhand. This would be the first appointment of retired Agniveers in the State government service. The approval for appointment of these two Agniveers against the vacant posts in the 40th battalion of PAC was given by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday.
As per the norms established by the Central government for post-retirement recruitment of Agniveers, a joint secretary level officer of Government of India had written a letter to the State government informing that the first batch of Agniveers recruited under the Agnipath scheme in the Indian Army would be retiring from the in November 2026. In this regard, two Agniveers from Uttarakhand were expected to be accommodated.
This decision by the State government marks an initiative to provide retiring Agniveers with the opportunity to continue their jobs.
Pertinently, the State cabinet in its recent meeting held in Haridwar had decided to exempt the retired Agniveers from appearing in the written examination and physical test for appointment in the 10 per cent seats reserved for them in the direct recruitment of the uniformed positions of Group ‘C’ in the State services. The retired Agniveers will be recruited directly in Group C uniformed of police, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), forest guards and jail warden.
Expressing happiness at the induction of Agniveers in the police force, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the skills, experience, and discipline that Agniveers acquire during their service in the Indian Army are an invaluable asset to the nation. “Our endeavour is to ensure that these Agniveers, who have served the nation, get an opportunity to continue serving the State and that the State benefits from their military experience, discipline and competence,’’ he said.
