CM asks forest dept to set up task force on attack of wild animals

Says responsibility of the DFO and the forest officer concerned should be fixed in the cases involving leopard attack on children

The forest department of Uttarakhand would constitute a task force with coordination of different departments for the incidents of the attack of wild animals on humans and the safety of human lives. The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed the officers of the Forest department for setting up the task force during a review of the department at the state secretariat on Monday. He said that the responsibility of the DFO and the forest officer concerned should be fixed in cases involving leopard attacks on children. On a stern note the CM said that action should be taken without delay in the cases of illegal felling of trees and illegal mining in the forest area.  He said that effective and dedicated efforts should be made to prevent the incidences of forest fires and focus on public awareness should be made by the forest department for preventing fires and conservation of forests. Dhami suggested that the forest department should undertake innovative measures to reduce man animal conflict, conservation of forests and reduction in landslides in the forest areas. He opined that targets to the forest officers should be given for innovative works. The CM directed that an effective work plan should be made to prevent damage to the farmers from the wild animals. He said that the works done by the forest department should be observed on ground. 

The meeting was attended by the cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal, chief secretary S S Sandhu, Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Anand Bardhan, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) Vinod Kumar Singhal and others.
