Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the disaster affected areas of Tehri and Rudraprayag districts on Thursday. The pilgrims travelling to Kednarath who were stranded due to landslides were rescued by the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, the Police and others. About 425 persons stranded in Bhimbali, Rambada and Lincholi were airlifted by the authorities. Apart from this, 1,100 visitors were rescued by alternative routes after they got stranded between Bhimbali and Sonprayag.
Heavy rains experienced in various parts of the State on Wednesday night resulted in considerable damage to infrastructure and major public inconvenience. Considerable damage was also caused to public and private properties. On learning about the disaster, Dhami got active from Wednesday night. He visited the State Emergency Operations Centre and sought information about the status of the impact of disaster in various parts of the State. He directed all the officials concerned to remain alert round the clock. On Thursday, the chief minister spent the whole day in the disaster-affected areas of the State. He conducted an aerial survey of the disaster affected areas of Tehri and Rudraprayag districts and also checked the condition of the disaster affected persons.
