CM checks disaster affected areas of Champawat, orders swift measures for normalcy

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted an aerial survey of the disaster affected areas of Champawat district and held a meeting with officials on Saturday. Dhami saw the Sarayu valley, Kalighati, Pancheshwar valley, Rausal and Tamli, among other areas. Chairing a meeting with the district officials at Banbasa later, the CM sought detailed information about the damage caused by heavy rains and flooding along with steps taken by the authorities for relief in the affected areas. He directed the officials to ensure that all possible assistance is provided to the people in every disaster affected area of the district, adding that financial assistance should be provided immediately to the affected people. He said that reconstruction works should be executed promptly and various other facilities should also be restored at the earliest. Steps should be take to ensure that all the blocked roads in the district are reopened without delay to restore the flow of traffic, he said.

The CM also directed the officials to visit the disaster affected areas and to ensure that the affected people are provided necessary facilities. “It must be ensured that the people do not face any type of problem. Officials should check the damage caused by the disaster and the progress of relief works. They should also talk to the affected people, learn about their requirements and ensure that the problems being faced by the public are resolved without delay. Disaster relief works should be executed promptly in a time-bound manner,” Dhami said. He directed the district magistrate Navneet Pande that every department should assess the damage caused by disaster in the district and submit the proposal for its repair to the State administration at the earliest. Dhami said that considering the damage caused by some or the other disaster throughout the year in Uttarakhand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had acted on the State’s request and increased the financial assistance provided to the State. Reconstruction and other works in disaster affected areas are being executed promptly as a result of this development. Following relief works after disasters, the top priority should be reconstruction works, Dhami said.

The district magistrate informed the CM about the damage caused by disasters in the district. Various main roads and rural motor roads had been blocked by heavy rains in the recent past. Most of these roads have been reopened and the traffic has been restored while work is underway to reopen the roads which are still blocked. Foodgrains and other essential commodities along with cooking gas cylinders and other items are being provided to villagers in disaster affected areas. Stock till October has been supplied to all fair price ration shops from where it is being provided to the consumers. Pande said that 23 rural motor roads are currently blocked in the district with work underway to reopen these roads. Further, 52 out of 77 damaged drinking water schemes of Peyjal Nigam and 123 out of 136 of the Jal Sansthan have been restored in the district.
