CM checks situation in State, directs officials to remain alert

With the arrival of monsoon and rains in most parts of the State on Sunday with heavy rains forecast in the coming days, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made a surprise visit to the disaster control room at the secretariat to check the status of the rain and its effects across the State. The CM sought information from the officials regarding the present status of the weather, rain, waterlogging and damage caused by the rain in the State. Dhami directed the officials to ensure that coordination and communication is maintained with districts where heavy rainfall is taking place and also likely to take place in the coming days so that timely action can be taken in case of any disaster situation. He further directed the officials to always remain on an alert mode for disaster relief and rescue works.
The CM said that those living near rivers and nullahs across the State should be told to observe vigilance. Special focus should be laid on ensuring that there should be adequate shelters and relief materials in all the districts in case the people need to be shifted for their safety. He further said that there should be an adequate system for drainage in case of waterlogging. Mechanical excavators should be deployed in advance in places which are vulnerable from the viewpoint of disaster. Adequate arrangement of personnel of health, police and SDRF should be ensured considering disaster situations.
Dhami also checked the current status of the Char Dham shrines and viewed Kedarnath live online. He also talked on the phone to the district magistrates of Haridwar, Pithoragarh and Chamoli and sought information about the situation in their areas. He directed that action should be taken to soon resolve the problem of waterlogging being faced in different areas of Haridwar. He also directed the officials in the border regions of Chamoli and Pithoragarh to remain alert considering that the regions are vulnerable to disaster.
