The hint given by the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami while addressing the party leaders and workers during the meeting of the state working committee of state BJP in Haldwani on Wednesday has given rise to speculations that Dhami could fill the vacant berths in his cabinet and also distribute responsibilities.
Dhami told the attendees that the dedicated workers of the party would be suitably used. This indication by CM is being seen as a broad hint that the government is planning to appoint position holders in the various corporations, commissions and councils. There are more than 100 vacant posts where the Dhami government can make appointments. The party circles are agog with the speculations that the CM Dhami would soon appoint position holders to fulfill the aspirations of the party leaders and workers. There are indications that the CM Dhami can also go for cabinet expansion after making appointment of position holders. In Dhami’s cabinet there is a vacancy of three ministers. It is pertinent to mention here that Haridwar district which sends maximum number of MLAs (11) in the state assembly is unrepresented in the cabinet. Similarly there is no representation from the Nainital, Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts. The names of Haridwar city MLA and BJP Uttarakhand president Madan Kaushik, Kaladhungi (Nainital) MLA Banshidhar Bhagat, Didihat (Pithoragarh) MLA Bishan Singh Chufal and Gadarpur (Udham Singh Nagar) MLA Arvind Pandey are making rounds as possible names who can become ministers. Before his appointment as the Uttarakhand president of BJP, Kaushik was a powerful minister in Trivendra Singh Rawat’s cabinet. Bhagat, Chufal and Pandey too have held important portfolios during Dhami’s first tenure as CM.
Experts are of the opinion that unlike former CM Trivendra Singh Rawat who left few positions in his cabinet vacant during his entire tenure and kept the party leaders waiting for long in making political appointments in commissions, corporations and boards, incumbent CM Dhami would prefer making these appointments.
