CM Dhami gets shot in arm from PM’s Kedarnath visit

The back to back visits of Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have made the position of the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami invincible both in the administration and the party. While Shah had patted the back of Dhami for efficiently managing resources during the recent rain triggered disaster in the state, Modi on Friday heaped praises on the young CM in his speech.

The PM said that under Dhami, Uttarakhand is traversing the path of development at a fast pace and the state would achieve much further heights in development. He also congratulated Dhami for successfully accomplishing the target of vaccinating the entire eligible population with the first dose of vaccine.  The PM said that for a state like Uttarakhand the task of vaccination is tough since the health workers have to travel for many kilometres on foot atop mountains to vaccinate three to four families.

The full support extended by Modi and Shah, the top duo of the ruling BJP to Dhami, indicate that the party has full faith in the abilities of the young CM. The party has also given the slogan ‘Young leadership, Young state’ for its workers for the upcoming assembly elections. This also means that the BJP would enter the elections under the leadership of Dhami and he would be chief minister in the event of the party returning to power in the state.

It is pertinent to mention here that there are six former chief ministers (major general (retd)  B C Khanduri,  Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Vijay Bahuguna, Ramesh  Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Trivendra Singh Rawat and Tirath Singh Rawat) and heavy weight leaders such as Anil Baluni, Satpal Maharaj and Harak Singh Rawat in BJP. Almost all of the above-mentioned leaders barring Khanduri consider themselves in contention for the position of CM of the state. However the recent visits of Modi and Shah have clearly indicated that the BJP has decided to play its cards on CM Dhami for leading the party.
