Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has welcomed the decision of the Union cabinet in which it approved the proposal of ‘one nation, one election’. Dhami took to social media to express his gratitude to the Union cabinet on Wednesday. He said that the decision will help in making Indian democracy more powerful and effective. The CM averred that the step will help in reducing the government money and time spent in the elections. The money saved in the elections can be spent in development activities such as education, health and infrastructure development, he said.

The Union cabinet in its meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved the proposal to hold simultaneous elections in the country.

It is pertinent to mention here that a high level committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind had submitted its report to the Union government on ‘one nation one election’ in March this year.

The report was presented before the cabinet on Wednesday. It lays a roadmap for implementation of the plan to hold simultaneous elections in the country. The Kovind report recommended simultaneous elections of Lok Sabha and State Assemblies in the first phase.  The proposal aims to streamline the electoral politics and procedures in the country by simultaneous holding of the elections which at present are staggered.
