CM Dhami registers landslide victory in Champawat by-poll
Defeats Nirmala Gehtodi of Congress by a record margin of 55,025 votes

Riding on an unprecedented wave of popularity, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami achieved a record breaking victory in the Champawat Assembly by-election. The margin of the victory of the CM Dhami can be understood from the fact that he garnered about 93 per cent of the total votes polled while the Congress candidate Nirmala Gehtodi could not save her security deposit. Dhami defeated his nearest rival Gehtodi by a margin of 55,025 votes.
The counting of votes started amid tight security at the Van Panchayat building of district headquarters of Champawat at 8 AM. The voting for the Champawat by elections was held on May 31 in which more than 64 per cent votes were polled. As soon as the counting started and trends started showing CM Dhami into an accessible lead which kept on increasing at the end of every round. In the postal ballots Dhami received 990 votes while Gehtodi got only 86 votes. After the end of 13 rounds of counting, Dhami cornered 57,268 votes from the EVMs while the Congress candidate Gehtodi could muster only 3147 votes.
A total of 58,258 votes were secured by Dhami in the by-election as compared to 3,233 by Congress candidate Gehtodi. After registering victory in the Champawat by elections, CM Dhami has fulfilled the constitutional obligation of getting elected to the state assembly within six months.
