CM directs health dept to take on Covid variant challenge

In latest news from Dehradun, with the new strain of Covid-19 called JN-1 expanding its arc across the country, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami instructed the State health department to take all possible steps to combat the new sub-variant. Earlier, the State health secretary Dr R Rajesh Kumar met the CM and apprised him of his department’s preparedness to taken on any medical emergency. He is learnt to have told the CM that the condition of those with respiratory unease are being monitored. Besides, all the district magistrates and the chief medical officers have been directed to exercise alert to ensure that the new variant is restrained. Sharing details with the CM, he said that there are 50 labs across the State, including 12 government-run ones. Besides, rapid antigen test facilities are being provided to the people at the levels of primary health centres and community health centres. Plus, there are enough beds kept ready for the covid positives and those down with influenza. Rajesh Kumar further told the CM that around 6,000 oxygen-suported isolation beds, 1200 ICU beds, 850 ventilator-attached ICU beds, 1300 operating ventilators, 7500 oxygen concentrators and 16,000 oxygen cylindars have been kept ready to combat any emergency in the coming days. Plus, 3161 paramedical staffers previously trained on covid protocal have been apponted to assist the medical staffers. The CM said that although no JN-1 variant case has been repoprted from the State yet, the health department must be on its guard fully in view of the uptick in the number of the infected in some parts of the country.
