Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to start work soon on the planned Rispana and Bindal elevated roads in Dehradun. He said that the Centre should be requested for assistance to link the Dehradun elevated corridor to the expressway, adding that work under the State sector should be started soon. He issued these directions while chairing a meeting with officials to review the project on Monday considering the city’s rising population, vehicular traffic and tourist footfall along with the expected rise in congestion after opening of the Delhi-Dehradun expressway.
An 11-kilometre long elevated road on Rispana riverbed and a 15-kilometre elevated road on the Bindal riverbed is to be constructed in the city. The public utilities including power lines, high tension lines and sewer lines are to be shifted out of the river area. Further, retaining walls will be constructed on both the banks along with flood protection works. Dhami directed all the linear departments to work in coordination while also telling them to make plans for other cities in the State considering the rising population and traffic. The output of all the development works should be visible on the ground and the quality and time bound execution of these works should also be ensured, he said. Dhami directed the chief secretary to regularly review projects including the Dehradun elevated roads, connectivity between Garhwal and Kumaon, Manaskhand Mandir Mala Mission and preparations for the coming Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra, adding that he too will do the same periodically.
