Taking cognizance of the inconvenience caused to the passengers due to the imposition of Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) policy by the government in the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi in view of the high levels of atmospheric pollution, the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the Uttarakhand transport corporation (UTC) to keep the services to the NCR in the normal mode. Following the order of the CM the UTC has come into action mode and it is trying to increase the frequency of the BS VI model buses and inducting more new buses in the Delhi route.
The additional secretary, transport, Narendra Kumar Joshi said that the UTC has taken a series of steps in view of the ban on the BS III and BS IV buses in the NCR. He said that the UTC at present has 185 CNG powered buses which are at present operational on Delhi route.
The UTC has 12 Volvo buses of BS VI model and now the number of the rounds of these buses have been increased on the Delhi route.
Joshi said that currently being the lean season the number of passengers has fallen to 50 per cent of the normal. He said in the case of an increase in the number of passengers on Delhi route the orders have been given for the operation of additional buses. Joshi added that the passengers of the buses which are unable to operate to Delhi due to GRAP guidelines are being transported to the Delhi border at Mohan Nagar and Koshambi in Uttar Pradesh. The UTC has set up coordination with the officers of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) for transporting the passengers of Uttarakhand to Delhi from the Delhi border. He said that all the officers posted in all the depots and other offices have been kept on alert mode. The UTC is trying to ensure that the people of Uttarakhand do not face any inconvenience while commuting to Delhi, he said.
