CM distributes over Rs seven crore to players

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami allocated funds amounting to more than Rs seven crore to athletes of the State during an event held to celebrate National Sports Day on Thursday. Dhami distributed scholarships amounting to Rs 58.5 lakh to 3,900 participants of the Mukhyamantri Udyaman Khiladi Unnayan Yojana. Further, prize money of Rs seven crore was also distributed by Dhami to 269 national level athletes, 58 international level athletes and 65 coaches.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhami informed that graduate classes focusing on sports activities will commence for students at the Maharana Pratap Sports College. He also added that out of the 2,600 players chosen under the chief minister’s incentive scheme, 10 per cent will be selected based on their performance and special training will be arranged for them, he said.
He further added that the state government will introduce the Target International Podium Scheme (TIPS) to assist players in winning medals at the global level, mirroring the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) administered by the central government.
Sports minister Rekha Arya said that Uttarakhand is setting new records in the field of sports and preparing a batch of international-level players in the State. She expressed excitement about the National Games and stated her confidence in the phenomenal performance of Uttarakhand players. Every player of the state is like a ‘gold medal’ and the State government is proud of each player and the accompanying staff, she added.
