CM felicitates sportspersons on National Sports Day
New sports scheme launched on the occasion

In latest news from Dehradun, with Uttarakhand along with the nation observing the National Sports Day and the birth anniversary of the hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami felicitated 96 sportspersons who have won medals in sports competitions at a commemorative programme held at IRDT auditorium. On this occasion, the CM also launched the Mukhyamantri Khiladi Udyman Protsahan Yojana. It is meant for the players in the age group of 14 to 23 years. Notably, the players in the age group from eight to 14 years have already been deriving benefits from this scheme. Under the newly introduced scheme, the selected players would receive incentive sports scholarship of Rs 2000 per month each. Besides, they will receive Rs 1000 annually to obtain sports instruments.
Speaking of the legendary Dhyan Chand, the CM said that he had given a distinct identity to the Indian hockey. “Though hailing from an ordinary family of army personnel, he rose to international eminence by dint of his skill in hockey. All sportspersons should derive inspiration from his life,” he said.
Dwelling on the State government’s commitment to boosting sports talents, the CM said that the ascending sports talents from the State are being provided with study scholarship.
