CM honours citizens who suffered horrors of partition

About 400 persons who suffered the horrors of the partition of India were felicitated at a programme attended by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to mark the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day at Rudrapur on Sunday.
After felicitating those who had experienced the horrors of partition, the chief minister said that he felt honoured by felicitating them. He said that the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day will be observed on a much larger scale in the coming years. He said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced from the Red Fort that the nation will observe the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. This is the day for remembering the sacrifices of all the freedom fighters and the people separated from their families during the partition. Recently, during the meeting of chief ministers, the PM had requested all the chief ministers that to mark the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day various programmes should be held and interaction should be held with those who were present during the partition,” said Dhami.
The CM said that during the partition, multitudes had risked their lives while migrating through trains, bullock carts and other means available. Despite experiencing the horrors of the partition, such persons made important contributions to the progress of society. “Those who had suffered the pain of the partition had also played an important role in settlement in the Terai region of Uttarakhand. Even today, such people are contributing to the development of the State,” said Dhami.
He further said that under PM Modi’s leadership, the State government has resolved to develop Uttarakhand into one of the best States of India by 2025 when the State enters the 25th year of its creation. The State government is working on the mantra of simplification, solution and disposal. Stating that an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is going to be opened at Kichha, he said that the attempt of the State government will be to facilitate direct trains from Kathgodam and Rudrapur to Amritsar.
Union minister of State for Defence and Tourism, Ajay Bhatt paid his respects to those who had protected humanity and Dharma from fanatics who were the enemies of humanity and Dharma. “Such people are role models for us and our coming generations. Despite losing all they had, they did not beg and instead stood on the strength of their grit and are today making important contributions to the development of the nation,” said Bhatt. Cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi also expressed his views on the occasion.
