CM inaugurates Kaliganga-I small hydro project

Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat dedicated the Kaliganga-I small hydro power project of the UJVN Limited to the public in Rudraprayag district on Thursday. Located on the Kaliganga river in Ukhimath area, this project was damaged by the heavy rains and flood in June 2013. The power house was swept away by the flood due to which power generation had stopped here. Considering the importance of the project for the remote area, the reconstruction work on the project was started in 2016. Due to the area being remote and the difficult terrain, various hurdles were faced in the construction of the project. In July 2020, the project was successfully synchronised and connected to 33 Kv supply line.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that the State government is committed to the development of remote areas. The government is also determined to ensure power supply to every home, he reiterated.

Informing about the project, UJVNL managing director Sandeep Singhal said that it will generate about 26.18 million units of power per year. The electricity generated at this project will improve the electricity supply in about 25 villages in the area including Jaltalla, Khunnu, Kotma, Kabiltha and Chaumasi among others. The Kedarnath MLA Manoj Rawat presided over the function in which UJVNL finance director Sudhakar Badoni, director (projects) Suresh Chandra Baluni and other officials along with local public representatives and citizens were also present. Further, during his visit to the Rudraprayag district the CM inaugurated and unveiled the foundation stones for various schemes worth Rs 85.94 crore.
