CM inaugurates works worth Rs 120 crore in Haridwar
Reiterates commitment on holding divine & grand Kumbh Mela
Chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat inaugurated various works amounting to Rs 120 crore in Haridwar on Saturday. He reiterated that the state government is committed to facilitating a divine and grant Kumbh Mela here.
Speaking on the occasion, Rawat said that devotees around the world were enthusiastic for Kumbh but there was also confusion due to Covid-19. He said, “Apart from the devotees, there was concern among the business fraternity and the general public. Considering this, our government has removed unnecessary restrictions but the Central government’s Covid guidelines will also have to be followed.We are focusing fully on the Kumbh and all attempts are being made to make it divine and grand. To improve transportation during the Kumbh Mela, the number of passenger vehicles has been increased about fourfold,” said the CM.
Rawat further said that the state government had discontinued the functioning of development authorities in rural areas. The State government has also withdrawn cases lodged against those who had violated Covid guidelines during the lockdown. Stating that people in the mountains who used to demand roads in the past are now talking of train, he said that the dream of train service in the mountains has become possible under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Union Education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, assembly speaker Premchand Agrawal, BJP state president Madan Kaushik other public representatives and officials were also present on the occasion.
Later, the CM held a meeting with senior officials regarding the Kumbh Mela. He expressed satisfaction at arrangements made in pursuance of earlier instructions to expedite the Mela works. He directed the officials to work in coordination and in a time-bound manner to ensure successful conduct of the coming Shahi Snans. Construction of internal roads in the city should be expedited, he stressed. Stating that construction at Damkothi should be expedited, he stressed on laying special focus on sanitation in the Mela area. The CM said that the attempt should be on providing better facilities to the devotees arriving here for the Kumbh Mela.
Earlier, while inspecting the command and control centre at the Mela control building, the CM said that the arrangements here should be made more effective, adding that it will help more in crowd control, traffic management and other aspects.
