Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed officials to ensure that the law and order situation in the State is maintained. Expressing his displeasure at cases of robbery in jewellery shops and other crimes, he directed officials to ensure coordination, swift exchange of information, effective intelligence system and night patrolling to prevent such incidents.
Dhami said this while chairing a meeting with senior officials of the police and administration to review the law and order situation in the State on Monday evening. He directed the senior superintendents of police to ensure timely briefing of any crime, also keeping the Information director general in the loop, so that the public is informed about the facts through the media. The Gaura Shakti application should be activated further to check gender crimes. Focus should also be laid on necessary action against religious conversion, love jihad and other crimes, he said.
Dhami stressed on the need for considering where and why crimes are rising in the State. The agencies concerned must also act in coordination to address the issue of demographic change. Stressing that Uttarakhand should not become a haven from criminals from outside, Dhami said that regular checking campaigns should be conducted in border regions. Focus should also be laid on verification of tenants and people from outside the State, while telling officials to ascertain how such persons and students in educational institutions are becoming domiciles of the State. He also directed that an investigation committee should be formed under the superintendent of police (City) in the case of the Haridwar jewellery shop robbery.
