Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami unveiled the foundation stones for and inaugurated other development works worth more than Rs 162 crore for the Champawat district while attending the Sangjyu-2024 programme in Lohaghat on Sunday.
A few days after the Haldwani riot, he said, “We will not allow anyone to spoil the atmosphere of this Devbhumi. Strict legal action will be taken against anyone who indulges in attempts to taint the image of Uttarakhand. The drive to rid government lands of encroachment is continuing across the State and will continue in the same way. Strict action will be taken against anyone who attempts to prevent the execution of government work,” the CM said.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Dhami informed about the various schemes and programmes being undertaken by the Central and State governments for women empowerment. Stating that women are the backbone of Uttarakhand, benefitting from 30 per cent reservation in government jobs or the Ujjwala Yojana and other schemes, women are becoming self-reliant and empowered while also contributing to making Uttarakhand a leading State. Dhami said that he had fulfilled the promise to pass the Uniform Civil Code bill in the Assembly, adding that the UCC will prove to be a milestone for the development of women and the nation. He said this bill has been passed in the interests of the State’s people and not for any particular caste or religious group. The CM further said that the government is working consistently to develop Champawat into an ideal district. The development model of this district will send a message to other Himalayan States, he said.
“The government is undertaking various development works in the district. Tourist spots are also being developed. Our State is consistently moving forward on the developmental path and the women of the State have a vital role in this. Making Champawat an ideal district will take Uttarakhand closer towards becoming an ideal State,” the CM said. He averred that the State government is providing governance sans corruption.
