Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami assured the parents of the deceased Ankita Bhandari that the government is standing with the bereaved family in their hour of grief and that it will work to get the case processed in a fast track court and secure the maximum punishment for the culprits. Meeting the parents of the deceased, the CM also presented a cheque for Rs 25 lakh as ex-gratia to the victim’s father who reiterated that it was more important for him to see those guilty of murdering his daughter being sentenced to death. Meanwhile, the special investigation team (SIT) probing the case secured police remand of the three accused in the case from the court and took them for questioning on Friday evening.

Dhami along with cabinet minister and Srinagar MLA Dhan Singh Rawat reached Ankita’s native village Dobh Shrikot and met her parents and brother. Dhami consoled the family and assured them that the State government is standing with them to ensure justice for Ankita.  He further said that the SIT formed under deputy inspector general P Renuka Devi has already started investigating the case. When the CM handed over the cheque for Rs 25 lakh to the victim’s father, he initially refused to take and insisted that the family’s main aim was to see that the murderers also get the death penalty.

Meanwhile the court in Kotdwar granted police remand of the three accused- Pulkit Arya, Ankit Gupta and Saurabh Bhaskar. The SIT took the three accused on remand for three days early on Friday evening. According to sources, though the remand was granted from Friday morning, the police delayed taking the accused along by some hours to avoid the risk of angry people blocking the police vehicle and attempting to assault the accused as they did on September 23 when they were being taken to court.
