CM meets Sitharaman, seeks Central assistance for Saung Dam Drinking Water Project

In latest Uttarakhand news, the State chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has met the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi and requested her to approve Rs 1774 crores for the Saung Dam Drinking Water Project as special assistance from the Government of India. The CM also requested her to remove the ceiling imposed on the loan amount of externally aided projects while keeping in view the resource crunch Uttarakhand faces. The CM stressed on the increasing demand for drinking water in keeping with the rising population   of Dehradun.  The cost of the proposed project is estimated at Rs 2021 crore. With the execution of the project, 150 MLD drinking water will be available to about 10 lakh population of Dehradun city and its suburban areas.  This project when completed would nearly end the dependence of the people on tube wells for drinking water supply, the CM said.  

The Union minister is believed to have assured the CM of all possible cooperation on the matter.
