Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the State administration to complete the tender process for the repair of damaged roads in the State so that the repair work commences on a war footing as soon as the rainy season ends. The CM gave the direction in the meeting of the State cabinet held at the State secretariat on Tuesday.
Dhami said that from October, he himself would travel to various parts of the State by road to inspect the condition of the roads.
In the meeting discussion on damage to the roads in all parts of the State and the need to undertake an extensive drive to improve roads in municipal bodies and rural areas was held.
The CM said that an effective action plan should be developed to repair roads under various departments and institutions, including the Public Works Department and the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). The meeting also discussed providing the necessary funds from the State government to repair old roads constructed under the PMGSY, whose maintenance period has expired and which are not being regularly monitored.
Dhami said that road improvement work should be undertaken simultaneously on a war footing across the State as soon as the monsoon season ends.
The meeting also discussed providing necessary funds to local bodies to improve the condition of roads in urban areas. The CM said that municipal corporations, municipal councils and Nagar Panchayats should be provided with the necessary resources for road improvement, so that roads in urban areas can also be repaired on a priority basis.
He asked departments to coordinate and develop a concrete action plan for road improvement and work in a timely manner. He said that all departments concerned must make coordinated efforts to improve the roads in urban and rural areas of the state.
