CM orders formation of SIT to probe forgery in land records

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the formation of a high level special investigation team (SIT) with at least three members for a time bound and detailed probe into forgery in land records in Dehradun. The SIT will include one senior IAS officer, a senior official of the Registration department and one senior police officer or any other capable person/officer. He also ordered that strict measures should be ensured immediately for security of the documents related to forgeries found in sale deeds in Dehradun district. The CM issued this order a day after finding various issues during a surprise inspection of the registry office and record room in Dehradun on Saturday.

The CM further directed that standard procedure should be ascertained and action should be taken immediately to make this effective for maintenance of documents in all record rooms in the State, security of records, securing their copies and controlling/restricting entry.

It is pertinent to mention here that the CM had conducted a surprise inspection of the registry office and record room in Dehradun on Saturday. Following discussion with the district magistrate, other officials and the inspection, it was found that measures for maintenance, security and prevention of destruction of contents of the record room which include important documents pertaining to many years, were not according to standards. Serious carelessness was also found in the procedure for entering the record room and securing copy from it. It is being stated that file binders containing copies of old sale deeds have been tampered with to orchestrate fraud pertaining to land, said officials.
