CM orders magisterial inquiry into deaths of nine trekkers

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident on the Sahastra Tal trek which claimed the lives of nine people. The Garhwal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey will lead the inquiry as per the CM’s order.  A group comprising 18 trekkers from Karnataka and one from Maharashtra besides three local guides were stranded while returning from the Sahastra Tal trek when weather conditions deteriorated on Tuesday afternoon. Nine trekkers lost their lives and 13 were rescued by the authorities. Dhami has directed Pandey to thoroughly investigate the matter and present its report to the administration soon.
