CM directs the department to provide free textbook to all students of Govt schools

In a major decision, the Uttarakhand government has decided to fill more than 3000 vacant posts of the class IV employees in the government schools of the State. The workforce would be taken from outsourcing agencies. The government has also decided to fill 2300 teaching posts by the guest teachers. The education department would now provide free textbooks to all the students of class IX to XII of government and aided schools. As of now the free textbooks are only provided to students of classes from I to VIII.
These orders were given by the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami while chairing a meeting of the officers of the education department at the State secretariat on Tuesday. He said that one residential school for girls on the lines of Rajiv Gandhi Navodyaya Vidhyalayas would be opened in every district of the State. The CM ordered the officers to ensure that the repair of all damaged buildings of schools is done. He said that free textbooks should be given to all the students.
Dhami said that the officers of Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest Services (IFA) should regularly inspect the schools so that the quality of education is improved. He suggested that a roaster should be prepared for this and the officers of the education departments should undertake regular inspections of schools.
He ordered that alternative arrangements to teach the students should be done in the schools so that their studies are not affected by the medical, maternity, child care and other leaves of teachers. Dhami said that the requisition for recruitment on the vacant posts of teachers should be sent without delay and the 950 vacant posts of Block Resource Person (BRP) and Community Resource Person (CRP) should be soon filled.
In the meeting the education minister Dhan Singh Rawat directed that the data related to the Performance Grading Index (PGI) should be uploaded soon in the UDISE portal.
In the grading list of PGI released recently, Uttarakhand was placed on 35th position among 37 States and Union Territories (UT) in the country. In the list the neighbouring states Uttar Pradesh (UP) is placed at 20th position while Himachal Pradesh (HP) is at 11th rank. The report is based on 70 indicators of education.
The meeting was attended by additional chief secretary Radha Raturi, secretary R Meenakshi Sundaram, Ravinath Raman, S N Pandey, director general (DG) education Bansidhar Tiwari and others.
