In latest news from Dehradun, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid glowing tribute to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and the former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries at his residence. He later paid floral tributes to the Mahatma at Gandhi Park in the city. He said that the Mahatma, the apostle of truth and non-violence, remained a source of inspiration for one and all. Lauding the towering role of the Mahatma in freeing the country from the thralldom of colonial rule, he said that the people should tread the path of non-violence founded on humanity which he embodied and this was the real tribute to the Mahatma.
While speaking of the monumental role played by Lal Bahadur Shastri in the nation-building process, CM Dhami said that he got immortalised by the slogan ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kishan’ coined by him during a critical period of India’s history. He invoked Atal Behari Vajpayee and said that he had added ‘Jai Vigyan’ to Shastri’s nation-building slogan and then said that present Prime Minister Narendra Modi has added ‘Jai Research’ to it. The CM further mentioned that marking these anniversaries, they embarked on a slew of service-related activities from September 17 to October 2.
