CM renames places in 4 districts

Citing alignment with public sentiment, Indian culture and heritage, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced renaming of several places across Haridwar, Dehradun, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts. He said that the renaming initiative was meant to honour India’s historical and cultural legacy, adding that it would inspire people to commemorate the great figures who have significantly contributed in preserving the country’s traditions.
Haridwar district
- Aurangzebpur → Shivaji Nagar
- Janjiali → Arya Nagar
- Chaudhpur → Jyotiba Phule Nagar
- Mohammadpur Jat → Mohanpur Jat
- Khanpur Qureshi → Ashoka Nagar
- Dhirpur → Nandpur
- Khanpur → Shri Krishnapur
- Akbarpur Fazalpur → Vijaynagar
Dehradun district
- Piruwala → Ramjivala
- Piruwala (Vikasnagar Block) → Kesari Nagar
- Chaudhpur Khurd → Prithviraj Nagar
- Abdullapur → Dashrath Nagar
Nainital district
- Nawabi Road → Atal Marg
- Panchakki to ITI Marg → Guru Govalkar Marg
Udham Singh Nagar district
- Nagar Panchayat Sultanpur Patti → Kaushalya Puri
Asked to comment, the Congress veteran Harish Rawat observed that his party was neither in favour nor against it. “But it seems as though changing names has become the saffron party’s agenda with the party having nothing to show in terms of development,” he said, adding that it was nothing but a diversionary move to befool people.
