In latest news from Doon, concerned with the recent spike in human-wildlife conflict resulting in human casualties, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed the State forest secretary and chief wildlife warden to chalk out effective plans to mitigate such incidents. The forest staffers must maintain round the clock vigilance in the affected areas and the teams comprising trained staffers should be sent to the sites, the CM said. Further, he directed the forest department brass to install solar fencing along the dividing lines of forest and human habitation areas. In another move, the CM asked the forest brass to ensure that all those living in the vicinity of forests are provided with sanitary toilets and cooking gas connections.
Taking note of the fact that the rescue centres for tigers and leopards are full to their capacities, Dhami asked the forest officers to firm up plans to facilitate proper places for the newly captured felines to stay. Notably, the CM had directed the senior forest officers at an emergency meeting in January to talk to their counterparts in other states about shifting some of the tigers and leopards kept in the rescue centres here to zoos and rescue centres of other states. Things, however, have not made much headway.
