The Forest department should undertake more effective efforts to tackle human-wildlife conflict. A proper policy should be formed and worked upon seriously for this. Along with prompt compensation for the victims of such conflict, biofencing should be ensured in areas adjoining forests bereft of biofencing so far. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said this while chairing the 20th meeting of the State Wildlife Board here on Friday.

Dhami said that patrolling should be stepped up in human-wildlife conflict hotspots. The personnel should be provided various equipment including camera traps, tranquiliser guns and other tools to tackle such conflict scenarios. Modern equipment like drones should also be used to monitor wildlife. Special focus should be laid in forest divisions where human-wildlife conflict is high, he said. The CM directed officials to soon prepare a detailed project report on the proposed zoo and safari in Haldwani. The Chaurasi Kutia in Rajaji tiger reserve should be upgraded to international standards soon.Wildlife-based documentaries and films should be prepared to boost wildlife-based tourism in various national parks in the State, he said.

Officials informed that the National Board for Wildlife has granted approval for the Jamrani dam multipurpose project. The board has also approved construction of the Kimsar-Bhogpur motor torad in Yamkeshwar block of Pauri district. The tiger conservation foundation has been formed in Rajaji tiger reserve after a delay of nine years, the official said.
