CM tells police to prepare for future challenges

The coming times will be challenging for the state police considering the Kumbh Mela, Char Dham Yatra and Covid-19. All preparations for the Kumbh and Char Dham Yatra should be completed on time, said chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat. He said this while chairing a meeting with senior officers of the police department to review the situation of crime, law and order in the state on Tuesday.

Stating that the first Shahi Snan of the Kumbh was very successful, he said that the number of devotees will increase further in the important Snans in the future. Complete preparations should be made for crowd management in the Kumbh and a proposal should be prepared if more force is needed. Rawat said that his Uttar Pradesh counterparty Yogi Adityanath had also assured that more force will be provided for the Kumbh.

Citing the Kumbh, Char Dham Yatra and Covid-19, the CM pointed to the need for increasing the number of vehicles with the police department. He also stressed on developing CCTV camera networks in small mountain towns also while adding that the department should focus on modernisation considering the need of the times.

Director general of police Ashok Kumar informed that various steps have been taken for smart policing in the state. Attempts like operation Mukti have been taken for social reform, as part of which 717 children found begging have been admitted to schools and are being monitored. Efforts are also being undertaken to make the parents of such children aware. Under operation Smile, 2,300 lost children were reunited with their families in the past five years. The State has received awards in 2017 for creation of City Patrol Unit and in 2018 for e-Suraksha Chakra. Further, during the past three years, three police stations of the state were adjudged among the top 10 police stations in the nation, he informed.
