The champawat district administration is gearing up for the ten-day Saras Mela to be inaugurated by the Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in Tanakpur on March 19. Notably, Champawat is the Assembly constituency from where Dhami was elected in a by-poll. The DM Champawat Narendra Singh said that the mela is being organized under National Rural Livelihood Mission and Uttarakhand State Rural Livelihood Mission.
The DM further said that the mission behind the mela is to find markets for products of the women self-help groups. Consequently, this would boost the incomes of the village women and at the same time strengthen the rural economy, he said. The mela would see over 200 stalls of the women self-help groups, the DM added.
