CM’s tweet raises furore in U’khand assembly
Opposition questions CM posting his picture while attending the session virtually
A tweet by the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat along with a photograph of him attending the winter session of Uttarakhand assembly virtually created furore in the assembly on Tuesday. The opposition members raised questions on CM posting his picture when the assembly is in session. The Manglaur MLA, Qazi Nizamuddin said that as per the rules of the assembly no member can take pictures when it is in session. The objection by the Congress member started a debate in the house on whether the CM attending the assembly virtually should be considered as part of the house or not. The CM of Uttarakhand is suffering from infection of Covid-19 and on the advice of doctors is in home isolation. The CM attended the session virtually on Tuesday.
Talking to the media persons outside the assembly, Nizamuddin said that the parliamentary affairs minister was clueless on the issue. He said that the rules and regulations of the assembly should be revised so that the constitutional validity to online attendance of the session should be established. “Things should be clear on the subject. What would have happened in the case of someone attending the session virtually where a vote division is needed,’’ he asked. Nizamuddin said that the speaker accepted that the regulations should be formulated on the issue. Later commenting on the subject the parliamentary affairs minister Madan Kaushik said the CM attended the session virtually and probably some of his staff members uploaded his picture. He said that the speaker during the monsoons session of assembly had notified some areas as equivalent to the assembly hall. He said that the speaker ruled on the issue that the regulations should be followed.
