Coalition cracks, Haryana CM quits

With the electoral maneuverings gaining momentum across the political spectrum ahead of the Lok Sabha election, the Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar along with his cabinet ministers stepped down. The trigger of the resignation was the crack having emerged in the State’s ruling BJP and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) coalition during seat- sharing dialogue. With things still murky, the BJP with 41 MLAs in the 90-member House is stated to be exploring all avenues to bounce back. A meeting of the BJP MLAs has been called to brainstorm on the developments. While JJP has 10 MLAs, six of seven independents were with the combine headed by Khattar. Besides the Congress with 30 MLAs, Indian National Lok Dal and Haryana Lokhit Party have one seat each.
