It is easier to judge the sanitation condition of a city when piles of garbage can be seen accumulated outside the office of a municipal corporation. The Kumaon commissioner Deepak Rawat said this after observing piles of garbage outside the Municipal Corporation of Haldwani (MCH) building during a surprise inspection on Monday. He also expressed his disappointment over the settlement of mutation cases and the delay in the settlement of the street light complaints which were pending for more than two weeks. He also questioned the irregularity in the attendance of field workers through biometric system. He sought explanations about all these irregularities from the officials concerned. He also directed the municipal officials to conduct a survey at their own level to identify damaged street lights and fix them within three days and submit a report. He also ordered the officials to ensure attendance of all sanitation workers within a week through a biometric system. He said that in case of laxity in work, explanation proceedings will be initiated against the officers concerned and action will be taken accordingly. On finding 15 employees on leave, the commissioner said that the officers and employees should understand their responsibilities during sensitive times like the monsoon season when the city is more vulnerable to disaster like situations. He asked the officials to ensure that employees must take leave only during urgent works and emergencies during sensitive times. Besides this, Rawat also directed the officials concerned to remove private hoardings and banners placed on public property. He said that the officials concerned should work on all these shortcomings regarding their work and make noticeable improvements. The administration will take strict action if the officials concerned neglect their duties and continue to make no improvements in their work, he said.
