Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the State government is committed to the welfare of the construction workers. He was addressing a programme organised at his camp office on Thursday in which many welfare schemes for the construction workers registered with the Uttarakhand Building and Construction Workers Welfare Board were launched.
He said that the new welfare schemes will also prove to be a milestone in improving the lives of workers and their families. He said that while nutritional assistance will be provided to workers’ families through the Mukhyamantri Poshan Yojana, educational materials will be provided to their children through the Mukhyamantri Shiksha Samagri Yojana. The CM said that hygiene kits will be distributed to workers’ families through the “Mukhyamantri Swachhta Samagri Vitran programme.
He said that under the Mukhyamantri Yoga and Wellness Arogya Yojana, free training in Yoga and wellness will be provided to the children of workers. Under the scheme, 210 children will be provided residential training each year. Arrangements have also been made to connect 70 youth receiving technical training under this scheme with employment after completion of their training.
The CM said that the Board is operating transparently, ensuring that its benefits reach genuine workers.
He added that under the Mukhyamantri Shramik Swasthya Yojana, special health teams will reach remote areas through mobile medical vans and provide better healthcare services to labourers at their workplaces and residences. These mobile medical vans will provide 44 types of tests, including X-rays and ECGs completely free of charge. Expert doctors will also provide advice through Tele-consultations and their health will be regularly monitored for three months after the examination. This initiative is being initiated in Pauri Garhwal and Champawat districts and will be expanded to the entire State in a phased manner.
He said that moving ahead on the Mantra of Shramev Jayate to enhance the dignity of workers, the State government is striving to bring the light of development to even the most marginalized in the state. Dhami said that the State government considers workers not just a workforce, but the development force of Uttarakhand.
“The government is committed to ensure that the lives of those who contribute to the state’s development, as well as those of their families, should be safe, healthy and prosperous. In keeping with this vision, the State government is providing financial assistance for the education of workers’ children,’’ he said.
MLAs Umesh Sharma Kau, Savita Kapoor and Durgeshwar Lal and others attended the programme.
