Compensation amount hike for death due to animal attack enforced in U’khand

In latest news from Doon, against the backdrop of the spike in the human- wildlife conflict casualties, the State government has hiked the compensation amount for those killed in wildlife attacks to Rs six lakh from the previous Rs four lakh under the human- wildlife conflict relief distribution fund rules 2024 issued. Besides, the people will get compensation in case their crops and houses are damaged and livestock are killed in wildlife attacks. As per the human- wildlife conflict relief distribution fund rules 2024, a nine-member team would be constituted with the the principal chief conservator of forests as its head to decide the compensation payment process. In case of loss of human life, 30 per cent of the compensation amount would be paid to the next of kin on confirmation by the public representative and the forest department personnel within 48 days of the incident and in case of loss of livestock, 20 per cent would be paid to the owner within 48 hours of the incident. Besides, in case of crop damage by wildlife, compensation would paid to the farmer within a fortnight following confirmation by investigation team.
